Tips For Eliminating The Bees In Your Yard

Honeybees are extremely important for crops because of the job they diligently perform day after day, but they can also be an extremely frustrating part of life if they begin living on your property. If you have a lot of bees flying around your yard, there may be a hive nearby. Bees live in and near beehives, and eliminating the hive is a great way to get the bees to move to a new location. Bee removal can be a dangerous task to complete, though. Here are some tips to help you get rid of the bees in your yard.

Locate The Hive

The first step in eliminating bees from your yard is locating where they live. Beehives all look the same and are easy to see when they are out in the open, but bees do not always place their hives in obvious locations.

To locate a beehive on your property, you will need to examine the property carefully, and you can begin by looking at your house. Bees commonly form hives on homes, and these are normally located near the gutters or chimney. Bees can also form their hives in other places, such as trees. If you can find the hive, you will be one step closer to eliminating the bees on your property.

Remove The Hive

Bees make hives for survival purposes. They use these hives to store their honey, and they use this honey for food all winter long when they are not performing their normal duties of pollination. In order for a group of bees to survive, they must have a hive. This is why one of the main steps involved with bee removal is eliminating the hive. If they do not have a hive, they will have to make a new one, and hopefully they will decide to do this somewhere other than on your property.

Unfortunately, removing a beehive is not the easiest thing in the world. When you mess around with bees, you are taking a big risk. If the bees feel threatened, and they likely will if you try to get near their hive, they can attack and sting you. Bee stings are not only painful, but they can also be dangerous to people who are allergic to them.

If you want to remove the hive yourself, you will need to dress in protective clothing and grab a bottle of pesticide to spray in and around the hive. This type of chemical will kill the bees that are in the hive, and this is what you will need to do before you actually remove the hive. Once you believe the bees are all dead in the hive, you can remove it and place it in a garbage bag. You may want to double bag it just to be safe, and you can then throw the bag away in your garbage can.

If you do not feel confident removing the hive yourself, hire a professional company to do it for you. This is the safer way to handle this task.

Take Steps To Prevent Bees From Coming Back

Once the hive is gone, you should also take a few steps to prevent the bees from returning and forming another hive near your home. There are several ways to do this, and here are some suggestions:

  • Perform maintenance on your home – If the beehive was located on your home, you should take the time to caulk all cracks and openings on your home. You can also cover your vents and openings with vents to keep the bees out.
  • Eliminate water supplies – You can also keep bees away by eliminating any types of water you may have around your yard. Standing water attracts bees, and they may move somewhere else if your yard does not have a good water supply.
  • Use garlic – Bees like things that are sweet, and they do not like things with strong or bad odors. Garlic is one of the things bees do not like. If you sprinkle garlic powder around the areas you think bees would be attracted to, it may help them stay away.

While bees are an important part of the environment, they are not a safe thing to have around your home. If you have bees in your yard and would like professional help eliminating them, contact a company that offers bee removal services, like ASAP Bee Removal
